Whilst attending Harvard University in 2004, the website Harvard-Connect came into Mark Zuckerberg’s knowledge. This site inspired Mark to create one of the greatest social networking sites in history; Facebook.
Zuckerberg had the option of reaching out to the founders of Harvard-Connect and co-creating facebook with them. But instead, he took the harder route and worked on the idea alone, realizing all the time that it might cause issues with the founders of Harvard-Connect.
If he hadn’t taken that step, he wouldn’t be worth the $60 billion that he is today.
Jeff Bezos had been working at a Wall Street-based investment firm in 1994.
As Senior Vice-President of the company, his pay was phenomenal by every standard. He could have satisfactorily lived his life with it, but he chose not to.
That year, Jeff Bezos left his job, one that people would die for. All of his social and financial security was thrown away within a moment. He moved to Seattle and started an “Online bookstore with millions of titles.” The world came to refer to it as Amazon on its birth in July of 1995.
If Jeff hadn’t had the courage to leave his job, he wouldn’t be the richest man alive with a net worth of almost $130 billion.
Elon Musk is one the of the iconic figures of the world, owning two unconventional companies: Tesla and SpaceX. Both these companies deal with areas that are almost never seen to be ventured by private entities.
Tesla was the pioneer of complete electric cars that did not need the sacrifice of functionality.
SpaceX is a private company of space exploration which was one of the first of its kind. It is known for its firm ambition to reach mars and is one of the reasons of Musk’s fame.
Elon Musk invested many millions of dollars in his companies, unaware whether investors would be attracted to such startups. But they were, and that is how his worth jumped up to $20 Billion and his companies turned into two of the most famous ones on earth.
So, what can we infer from this?
Successful people take risks.
They don’t look for the safer way.
They don’t hold on to things for the fear of losing them.
They aren’t afraid to put everything on the line.
They are aware that they might lose all that they have and that failure could be their fortune.
But that doesn’t stop them from doing it.
And that is the reason of their success.
To be with the big boys, you have to act like them. Having it all always comes after risking it all.
